The Challenge

Sword Greece has used Atlassian Server products for some years now (Jira, Confluence and Tempo) as critical applications within the business.

The company however was facing a serious dilemma of whether it should stay on-prem or migrate to the cloud. The Sword team had to take into consideration operational costs, as well as hosting, backup, maintenance, and security issues.

Before making the decision to move to cloud, Sword’s team had to consider all of its options. The company had to carefully work through some pricing models to compare the cost, looking holistically at everything from hosting to their growing user base in order to get a true comparison.

That’s when our team came in to answer all of Sword’s concerns, clearing any doubts they might have about staying on-prem vs. migrating to the cloud.

The Solution

Nimaworks' certified expertise in Atlassian Cloud was instrumental in the successful and rapid implementation of the project.

After evaluating Sword Group’s needs, Nimaworks' team of specialized consultants completed a comprehensive assessment of the company’s environment, existing networks, applications, processes, and workflows, offering a detailed analysis of the existing situation.

Right after, a complete migration plan was crafted for the safe transition and full integration of the organization into the Atlassian Cloud. Our team then got to work, migrating all applications and creating a test environment on the company site and the cloud. Data, processes, and workflows were run through the test environment and validated prior to migration.

Once testing was over, everything was set to go. During the launch phase both teams resolved any last-minute issues, running production migration, and moving users and data over to the Cloud.

With careful planning, preparation, and Nimaworks' all star team, Sword and the company’s 300+ users successfully migrated to the Atlassian Cloud with no disruption, in just over a month.

Our team of cloud experts played a very important role in the whole process. From the beginning till the successful completion of the migration, they were there at every step of the way, offering immediate support to any problem that arose.

The Impact

By migrating to the Atlassian Cloud and with the help of Nimaworks cloud migration experts, SWORD got the upgrade support, availability, and user experience its teams needed.

With our experts' guidance, the company now enjoys significant time savings, reduction of operational costs, zero downtime and maintenance in the use of Jira Software, Confluence and Tempo.

In the past, when Sword managed Atlassian products on-prem, all maintenance tasks (upgrades, updates) required some downtime and work by the IT team. By migrating to the Cloud, Sword’s team can count on Atlassian’s reliable products that ensure stability and availability at scale and don’t let downtime affect their work. Now, instead of spending time on updates and upgrades, the maintenance team simply follows the weekly Atlassian cloud release notes and sees all the new features that are automatically available to them. With downtime not affecting day-to-day activities, IT productivity and capacity have both increased. IT can focus on high-level, strategic objectives, with reduced burnout.

The company also enjoys significant savings in resource, maintenance, and physical data storage costs, while improving IT processes. All this of course, without sacrificing security, as the Atlassian cloud offers built-in security features and specialized cloud security tools ensuring that an organization's resources are protected.

And as far as the end-users are concerned, despite the initial fears of leaving on-prem for cloud, this sentiment was quickly reversed, once the launch phase was reached and everything was accessible. Employees across the organization now find it easier to collaborate with full access to Jira, Confluence and Tempo, in the cloud environment.

All in all, the cloud migration has resulted in technology process optimization for Sword's 300 employees, making their daily work easier and enabling them to work smarter and faster. By removing the hassle of maintaining and updating systems, the Sword team is now able to invest their time, money and resources into fulfilling its core business strategies.
